Welcome to the Premier School of Judo

Premier is run by a professional sports coach who works in a variety of schools and colleges, ranging from infants to comprehensive schools, delivering judo and self defense lessons.

Pupils are then invited to attend club classes at the Hedge End Youth and Community Centre in Hedge End near Southampton or at the Lido Dojo in Worthy Lane, Winchester.

Although these days most pupils are drawn from local schools, we welcome any beginners who would like to have a go at this fine sport. We try to coach in a relaxed, friendly and informal manner while being aware of important safety and technical considerations.

Whilst we have had contest success at county and regional level we will not put any pressure on any pupils, who must progress at their own pace. This philosophy probably accounts for our high retention rates.

Premier's Head Coach is Peter Gittins

He is a full professional sports coach, employed in coaching at various schools and colleges in Hampshire since 1989.

His pupils have reached county and regional level, although the main factor in his coaching is high pupil retention rates, with many junior pupils staying until they go off to college.

A former contest man, he made the Southern Area squad in 1968 and represented Hampshire several times in the 1970s as a lightweight. A return to veterans judo produced a British Masters Bronze as an over 50 middleweight in 2006.

In 2012 he made the short list for the British Judo Association's Coach of the Year Award, although he did not make the final four for the award ceremony.
